RealCAD and SketchUp |
|
Google SketchUp is a wonderful 3D sketch
modeller. It was originally created by "@last software"
and was bought by Google to allow anyone anywhere to model buildings
and features and upload them to Google Earth.
You can see virtual 3D SketchUp buildings
in place as you fly around in the virtual world, but Google SketchUp
has become much more than a quick building modeller and many
clients have chosen to use this powerful software to model a
whole range of objects and even 3D landscapes.
With this in mind we decided to provide
a tool that would allow our RealCAD and LANDWorksCAD users the
benefit of downloading from the millions of free pre-made 3D
models available in Google's "3D Warehouse".
Woohoo, great eh?!
Not only that but you can import entire
3D scenes complete with texture mapping that will look and feel
almost the same as it did in SketchUp, then you can work on the
model directly inside RealCAD or LANDWorksCAD to produce composed
drawings, elevations, sections and 3D views just as if you had
modelled it directly in your CAD software. (You will of course
need the 3D version of the CAD software to make use of this new
tool).
The SketchUp translator is available for
purchase to all subscription users. Call or email
for more information.
Note: You do not need to have SketchUp
in order to import SketchUp models from the 3D Warehouse. |

It's Official,
the Recession's Over... |
|
...Well at least based on the rate of sales
inquiries in the last month. We are quietly confident that the
recession has bottomed out and that cautious confidence is coming
back into the market place.
Speaking with clients when they call we
are hearing that things are improving all round, not just in
stimulus package markets but in all areas of industry.
Clients linked to the building industry
are reporting a positive shift and even manufacturing businesses
are saying that orders are starting to increase and volumes are
being improved in preparation for the expected upturn.
We are still not seeing large volumes of
software licenses being delivered to larger companies but smaller
companies are buying new CAD software and training staff in using
the software so they remain competitive and stay productive.
There is a sense of not wanting to be left behind.
Perhaps going out on a limb in saying it....
we predict November this year to be the start of a major return
to business growth. We're prepared, are you? |

Online LANDWorks
Demo |
|
If you've been thinking of buying LANDWorksCAD
but haven't made the move just yet, book an obligation free online
demo to see the software in action.
Follow the process of creating your very
first drawing using the software from start to finish. Watch
as the demonstrator runs you through importing a drawing from
Autocad, cleaning it up and adding his own personal landscape
design. Then add hard and soft landscaping elements, labelling
and even insert photographs in the drawing. Finally you can even
check out how to print your drawing ready to email to a client.
It's free. To
experience the demo simply contact Celine
in head office.
Oh, and by the way. If you've been using
LANDWorks for a while and would like to pick up a useful tip
or two then feel free to book also. |

Saying NO to Norton's |
|
Whilst we can't confirm that Nortons antivirus
software is responsible for multiple problems we've experienced,
it does on the surface appear to fix those problems when Norton's
is removed and replaced with a different antivirus software such
as AVG.
It would seem that Norton's 360 is particularly
at conflict with some of the processes used with CAD and Vista
together.
Please let us know if you have experienced
the same sorts of issues to help us confirm or deny this claim.
Here too is a link to some free antivirus
software we know works ok... http://free.avg.com/au-en/homepage |

Support Funnies... |
|
Every day in CAD Support we get some lovely
calls from our clients; some have been just as interesting as
these ones sent in to us today by one of our customers in South
Africa... (Thank you Michelle S.) ....
Tech support: What kind of computer do you have?
Female Customer: A white one...
Tech
support: Good day. How may I help
you?
Male Customer: Hello... I can't print.
Tech support: Would you click on 'start' for me and...
Customer: Listen pal; don't start getting technical on me!
I'm not Bill Gates, ok.
Tech
support: Click on the 'my computer'
icon on the left of the screen.
Customer: Your left or my left?
Customer: Hi, good afternoon, this is Martha, I can't print.
Every time I try, it says 'Can't find printer'. I've even lifted
the printer and placed it in front of the monitor, but the computer
still says he can't find it...
Customer: I have problems printing in red...
Tech support: Do you have a colour printer?
Customer: Aaaah....................thank you.
Tech
support: What's on your monitor
now, ma'am?
Customer: A teddy bear my boyfriend bought for me at Woollies.
Customer: My keyboard is not working anymore.
Tech support: Are you sure it's plugged into the computer?
Customer: No. I can't get behind the computer.
Tech support: Pick up your keyboard and walk 10 paces back.
Customer:! OK
Tech support: Did the keyboard come with you?
Customer: Yes
Tech support: That means the keyboard is not plugged in. Is
there another keyboard?
Customer: Yes, there's another one here. Ah...that one does
work...
Tech
support: Your password is the small
letter 'a' as in apple, a capital letter V as in Victor, the
number 7.
Customer: Is that 7 in capital letters ?
Customer: can't get on the Internet.
Tech support: Are you sure you used the right password?
Customer: Yes, I'm sure. I saw my colleague do it.
Tech support: Can you tell me what the password was?
Customer: Five stars. *****
Tech
support: What anti-virus program
do you use?
Customer: Netscape.
Tech support: That's not an anti-virus program.
Customer: Oh, sorry...Internet Explorer. Customer:
I have a huge problem. A friend has placed a screen saver on
my computer, but every time I move the mouse, it disappears.
Tech
support: How may I help you?
Customer: I'm writing my first e-mail.
Tech support: OK, and what seems to be the problem?
Customer: Well, I have the letter 'a' in the address, but
how do I get the circle around it?
A woman customer called the Canon help
desk with a problem with her printer.
Tech support: Are you running it under windows?
Customer: 'No, my desk is next to the door, but that is
a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under
a window, and his printer is working fine.'
And last but not least...
Tech support: 'Okay Colin, let's press the control and escape
keys at the same time. That brings up a task list in the middle
of the screen. Now type the letter 'P' to bring up the Program
Manager.'
Customer: I don't have a P.
Tech support: On your keyboard, Colin.
Customer: What do you mean?
Tech support: 'P'.....on your keyboard, Colin.
Customer: I'M NOT GOING TO DO THAT!!
