In Detail

AutoCAD® LT from Autodesk provides a complete set of 2D CAD tools for creating accurate professional drawings and models in AutoCAD® .DWG format.

Productivity Starts Here

For over 26 years AutoCAD® software has delivered productivity-enhancing features. Benefit from AutoCAD® LT software's consistent 2D drafting focus with the improved 2013 release.

Compatibility Starts Here

AutoCAD® LT software's genuine DWG file format facilitates data fidelity and compatibility between AutoCAD software. As one of the most commonly used file formats (especialliy in 2D), DWG enables common file communication with clients and colleagues. Please note however that the DWG format has changed many times over the years and the latest AutoCAD LT cannot read all earlier DWG file formats. If you need this facility consider Bricscad or RealCAD LT as an alternative or get a DWG file translator such as CAD Wizard.

Reliability Starts Here

AutoCAD® LT 2013 software technology, relied on by millions of professionals. It is widely used and stable CAD platform.

Create, document and share with one of the industry's most widely used 2D drafting and detailing software.

AutoCAD® LT is professional 2D drafting and detailing software from Autodesk, one of the world's leading digital content providers.

  • AutoCAD® LT is the 2D version of AutoCAD software from Autodesk.
  • It is well known traditional CAD software for the production of 2D drawings in many disciplines and whilst the look and feel of the software has changed incrementally over the years, it is still much the same to use and will be familiar to those who were taught AutoCAD® many years ago.
  • It has an established following and buying AutoCAD® LT can be regarded as a 'safe' option. It is especially popular among those who already know how to 'drive' the software or who are employing experienced AutoCAD® trained operators.
  • It is a limited ability version of the full AutoCAD® software without 3D tools, LiSP, ARX or VBA programming language support.
  • AutoCAD® LT also has a slightly reduced set of commands compared with full AutoCAD®.
  • It has excellent data table handling features and file security features including digital signatures for your drawings.
  • Network licensing is not available in AutoCAD® LT. Licenses must be purchased individually.
  • Note too, the sheet set management tools, presentation graphics and CAD standards available in the full version are also not incorporated in the LT version.

Note: AutoCAD® LT buyers should consider full AutoCAD, Bricscad or RealCAD LT as more feature rich alternatives with the later two being significantly more affordable.

Frequently Asked Questions

[Q] What's the difference between AutoCAD LT and full AutoCAD?

[A] AutoCAD LT is designed for 2D drafting and does not support the running of plug-in productivity enhancing applications. Full AutoCAD on the otheer hand has 3D and runs third party applications. We find most people considering the purchase of AutoCAD LT (these days) will typically purchase Bricscad, RealCAD LT or IronCAD instead

AutoCAD LT also has a slightly reduced set of drawing tools and LT does not have the sheet set managment tools and there is no network license available.

[Q] Would I be better to buy Bricscad or RealCAD instead of AutoCAD LT?

[A] Maybe. If you need a very AutoCAD-like software that works natively in DWG then Bricscad will probably be a better choice because it can run 3rd Party applications and it has 3D and more drawing tools. It is also less expensive and opens DWG files from very early versions of CAD which AutoCAD LT can not.

If you are happy to learn a faster and arguably better software than either AutoCAD LT or Bricscad then RealCAD LT would be the best choice as it is easier to learn, feature rich and generally faster to draw with.

[Q] Will product activation allow me to use the software on multiple machines?

[A] Autodesk recognizes that some users may need to operate their software when away from their usual work location. To accommodate this need, the product activation technology allows an employee to install the software on a second computer owned by the employee's company, provided it is for use away from the employee's usual work location, the software is used only by that employee and no other, and only one of the two copies of the software is ever in use at any one time. Consult the Autodesk Software License Agreement for details about using the software on a second computer.

[Q] Has the AutoCAD LT software DWG file format changed for AutoCAD LT 2013?

[A] The file format for AutoCAD LT 2013 is different from previous versions. AutoCAD LT 2013 can also save drawings in a wide variety of formats, ranging back to R14 DWG and R12 DXF. If you require the ability to work with earlier files than these you should consider Bricscad or RealCAD LT
